Assessment of the structured clinical interview (SCID) for DSM-5 for somatic symptom disorder in general hospital outpatient clinics in China

Abstract Background It is still unknown whether the “Somatic symptom disorders (SSD) and related disorders” module of Structured Clinical Interview for DSM-5, research version (SCID-5-RV), valid in China. This study aimed to assess SCID-5-RV SSD general hospital outpatient clinics Methods multicentre cross-sectional was conducted nine tertiary hospitals Beijing, Jincheng, Shanghai, Wuhan, Chengdu between May 2016 March 2017. The “SSD translated, reversed-translated, revised, used by trained clinical researchers make a diagnosis SSD. Several standardized questionnaires measuring somatic severity, emotional distress, quality life were compared with SCID-5-RV. Results A total 699 patients recruited, 236 diagnosed Of these patients, 46 had mild SSD, 78 moderate 100 severe 12 excluded due incomplete data. highly correlated (all P < 0.001) could distinguish nonsevere forms from ones. Conclusions suggests that can non-SSD cases cases. has good discriminative validity reflects DSM-5 diagnostic approach emphasizes excessive emotional, thinking, behavioural responses symptoms.

Is the DSM-5 chapter on somatic symptom disorder any better than DSM-IV somatoform disorder?

DSM-5 is a modest improvement on DSM-IV, notably in abandoning the distinction between medically explained and unexplained symptoms, but problems remain. The chapter text is incoherent, contradicts the classification and will be clinically unhelpful. ICD-11 should attempt a more logical and consistent revision.
